Suicide: A Silent Killer Among the Armed Forces

I've lost a few friends who fell to their inner struggles. I never saw it coming until the phone call came.

I believe these men and women fought internal battles they never talked about. My friends seemed to have normal, happy lives from the outside. They left behind family, wives, their children, and friends. Left behind many hearts that feel empty because their gone, wishing their loved ones were still here.

It's often called a selfless act, but we don't fully understand the demons our brothers and sisters carry every minute of every day. I don't like the term "selfless act." Instead, I see it as an internal battle fought alone.

To honor these brave souls and bring Awareness, we have created a coin with deep meaning:

• Front of the Coin:

• The phrase "PRO UNO QUI PATITUR SOLUS" (For One Who Suffered Alone) across the front, bound within a scribe.

• The scribe is gripped by a bald eagle, symbolizing the nation we serve.

• At the top, the words "I KNOW" with our brother's or sister's name at the bottom.

• A tribute to never be forgotten: "I KNOW [soldier's name] For One Who Suffered Alone."

• Back of the Coin:

• The Army emblem with the date 1775, reflecting the year the Army was established.

• The only color is Army Green, against an Antique Gold finish, ensuring the coin stands out in a sea of shiny, colorful challenge coins.

Designed not to fall into the background, but to stand out amongst a sea of shiny, colorful challenge coins, this coin has a true meaning that comes with emotions. No words need to be spoken, just a visualization of a silent killer with a name never forgotten.
